How can I tell if the gas has escaped from my cracked plasma TV screen?
In many cases if the outer glass is simply scratched or has a light crack the TV will still function properly and a picture will appear. If this is the case the glass has most likely not escaped from your plasma TV. You can also feel for wetness around the crack, which would indicate the gas is escaping. If that is the case you should seek professional help with your repair.
How to repair a lightly cracked or scratched plasma TV screen
Should you decided to proceed with repairing your lightly cracked or scratched plasma TV screen, proceed with caution and at your own risk. The following instructions may or may not work for your particular problem and we do not guarantee any success.
- Unplug the TV from all power sources before starting your repair.
- Get regular petroleum jelly and rub a thick coat onto and into the crack using a soft cloth, such as microfiber. Wipe away an excess jelly. Reapply the petroleum jelly as necessary to fill in all of the cracks.
- Plug in the TV and test. The cracks should disappear and the picture display as normal. If not, you should seek professional help in repairing your plasma TV screen.
I have a 32# Envison 2008 flat screen tv, and it appears that something has been thrown at it in several places. There are many cracks at the point of impact, which naturally etched out in different directions. When it’s turned on there are rectangular, and horizontal lines in many colors. I attempted to use the petroleum jelly, yet I see no repair results. As indicated above it appears to me that the gas has escaped. I don’t know what to do. Please advise!

Hello! I have a 32” plasma sansung tv. one day my speaker to my surround system fellback and tapped the tv.. The tv was off. well when I saw this I quickly moved the speaker and tried to turn the tv on but i getting no picture. I then saw a spider cracker in the lower left hand corner. Please tell if and how i get this fixed cuz i like this tv and i dont wanna throw it away. i dont think it cracked both glasses. so please can i get it somehow either i do it myself or pay a repair shop. i called a shop and they said a new screen will be 600 dollars, but that has to be bs cuz i only bought the tv for 492 dollars. It depends on the size of the tv, it could cost as much as the tv did just to repair it especially if its a big tv such as a 50″ flat screen
I punched my TV, I was able to stop myself before following through and exploding the screen with my fist. I just barely knicked the screen and lines of many colors shot through out the whole screen. There are no cracks or scratches and I naturally just unplugged everything asap. Think I might have a shot at self-repairing it?

Although I’m sure there are cases where the kids or pets have destroyed your tv. I recently found out that overheating is the cause of these mystery cracks. Also all glass is not tempered equally. Unfortunately even after Samsung sent a tech to the house they still refused to make good on their product so good luck to you all . All of your tv’s are broken beyond repair, at least not cheaper than the price of a new tv. Go buy new tv’s none of the repairs in this forum will fix a broken screen of that kind of impact. End of story.
